Join our “Activating tangata Tiriti” gathering!

Many if not most of us tangata Tiriti understand that Te Tiriti o Waitangi is our founding document which provides aframework for us all to belong here – see why Te Tiriti is important to me here.  And, many if not most of us tangata Tiriti are also unhappy about the many backward steps currently being taken – for example the Treaty Principles Bill.

But what can we do about it?

Here’s a good solution – come along to the “Activating Tangata Tiriti” on Saturday 12 October 2024 here in Te Whanganui a Tara / Wellington.  The aim is to grow our ability to act in support of Te Tiriti and against racism, and we‘ll start the day with some short talks to buildthe foundations from awesome humans including Tina Ngata, (Ngāti Porou), Kassie Hartendorp, (Ngāti Raukawa, Ngāti Tūwharetoa), Dr Adreanne Ormond (Rongomaiwāhine, Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāti Tūwharetoa) and Max Harris (Pākehā).  Then we’ll have unconference, peer-led sessions to share, learn from each other, and find ways of taking action.  I’m very pleased to be part of the organising team along with Lani Evans, Kate Thomas, Madeleine Taylor and Anna Guenther.

We’ll have free childcare and/or scholarship tickets available if you need it. There are just 60 tickets available so get in quick!

When: Saturday, 12 October 9am – 5pm
Where: two/fiftyseven, Level 2, 57 Willis Street, Wellington

  1. Then first thing is first… you are tauiwi, not Tangata.
If you want to support Te Tirtii 1840 then you are tautoko people… people in support.
Get this right from the get go.

    1. Eah !! Kaua e kōrero teka! they are Tangata Tiriti ! yes they are Tauiwi , if they support te tiriti then they are one hundred percent Tangata Tiriti

  2. As non Tangata my intention is not to compare or offend ….. we are on a learning curve and trying to bring / drag others with us to stand in support …….

  3. Kia ora – thanks for the comments and appreciate the kōrero. Simple things like what we as non-Māori should call ourselves are actually not all that simple, and always appreciate advice.
